2. Introduction to Mindset - SAMPLE
Lesson 1.1
What is required for you to be successful?
Maybe success means working really hard, knowing the right people, being smarter, having more money, or having special skills.
These things may help you become successful, but the greatest influence on success is our mindset.
Mindset is the way that we think, the way that we see the world, and what we and our community believes. It is how we understand ourselves, others, the world, and the spiritual realm.
Our mindset tells us what we want to do, why we want to do it, and how to do it. How you think about yourself, others, the world, and the spiritual realm guides the choices that you make.
Our mindset is like a pair of glasses. When we wear glasses we can see the world more clearly. If our glasses are green everything is greener. If we only wear sunglasses everything is darker.
Different types of glasses are not good or bad, they are just different. With sunglasses, we can see when it’s sunny. With goggles, we can see underwater. Different ways of seeing the world can be good and helpful.
But we can have bad glasses. If our glasses are too dark, we won’t be able to see very well. If our glasses are broken we will only see broken glass - and it might even hurt us.
Like these glasses, the way that we understand the world, ourselves, others, and spiritual life changes the way that we see. People around the world understand things differently, they believe things differently, and so they behave differently. Different people think that different things are beautiful, respectful, or tasty.
Our differences can be good. We can all use our different perspectives to help each other learn and grow. This is how we were made to be.
But some ways that we learn to see the world are not good for us. They are not true and they could hurt us or others. When we see the world in ways that are harmful we make poor decisions because we see ourselves, others, and the world incorrectly.
In these lessons we will talk about ways to see ourselves, others, and the world in ways that are true and good, so that our mindset can lead us to make good choices that lead to our success and blessing for our communities.
