4. Mindset About Ourselves - SAMPLE
Lesson
The mindset that we have about ourselves is one of the most important parts of developing strong relationships, businesses, and communities.
In the first lesson we learned that our mindset is like glasses that affect how we see the world. Many times we struggle with a mindset that is stuck on negative traits about ourselves. Our glasses are broken, so when we look at ourselves, we think that we are broken too.
We can be like the caterpillar, limited by our fears and broken view of ourselves.
A negative mindset is created by different influences in our lives that taught us how to see ourselves.
These influences may tell you that you should be afraid of failure, of disappointment, of being made fun of, or of not being good enough.
They may tell you to avoid your problems, blame others for your mistakes, or that your problems are not important. They may tell you that there is no way you can fix your problems or that it will be too hard, so you should just give up.
Listening to the influences of the negative mindset will always prevent you from growing and achieving your goals.
But these things are not true.
We are capable of doing good and growing beyond what we think is possible today. We are strong as individuals and we can find a community of people and resources that can support us.
We do not have to be afraid - we can be confident in ourselves, believing that even when we fail or people criticize us, we can learn and grow.
We do not have to avoid our problems - we can accept responsibility for mistakes, commit to growth, and be grateful for all that we have.
We can overcome our negative mindset by responding to the lies with a growth mindset.
When our negative mindset says, “What if you can’t do it? You will be a failure and everyone will make fun of you.” We can say, “I can do it. And even if I fail, I can learn, grow, and try something new.”
When our negative mindset says, “You aren’t good enough to do this.” We can say, “I am enough, I will work hard, and I am capable of learning what I need to grow.”
When our negative mindset says, “This problem isn’t my fault, it’s my coworker’s fault,” We can say, “I will take responsibility for this, seek forgiveness, and grow to be better.”
Like the caterpillar, we have to believe that we are made to fulfill our good purpose and do the work that requires.
The more we allow our growth mindset to speak truth, the stronger it will become, and the quieter the negative influences will be.
