Stories of Impact:
Joyce, a woman entrepreneur in Tanzania
Joyce is a mother living in a remote community in Tanzania. She entered Flint’s program to provide for her family and change her future. To break the cycle that keeps knocking her down.
Through our program Joyce received practical business training, access to banking and to business financing, growth mindset training, and business mentoring, which
is still continuing today. Our process is a long-term relationship that assesses gaps and deploys these and other tools developed specifically for the local environment.
As a result, Joyce launched a business that has more than doubled her household’s entire income. She can afford food, healthcare, and education for her children. Now she is dreaming bigger than ever for her future. Her business continues to grow, and she is breaking the cycle not just for herself, but for family for generations to come.

William, an Orphaned Teen in Colombia
William is an orphaned teen who, by law, will soon age out of the orphan home where he lives and has grown up. He’ll be forced to leave not only his home, but his entire network and system of care.
Orphan homes like William's partner with Flint so we can equip these remarkable youth with the practical skills, connections, and resources they need to flourish on their own and break those cycles of abandonment forever.
Through our program, William learned to find housing, open a bank account, use public transportation, manage his finances, and get and maintain gainful employment. Through our partnership and his own hard work, William has already acquired a job in preparation for his transition out of the orphan home. We will continue to walk with him and work with him as he works toward further education and to build a career, a family, and a future.

Testimonials from Participants
"Starting today, we will utilize our land and save money for our children’s education. This training has brought hope and joy back into my family and marriage. I now see myself as a successful and happy man.”
Mr. Abdul, Program Participant, Tanzania
"I never imagined that the program would change my life, but after leaving the home, I put what I had learned into practice and was able to advance in my life. I knew how to find a place to live, how to organize my finances, what things I needed to live and how to buy them. Without these teachings, I do not think it would be possible for me to be where I am today. Thank you for helping me grow."
David, Thriving Skills Graduate, Colombia
“I was blind, but even though I am old, my eyes have been opened. The training has taught me to be creative and has given me new purpose."
Daruka, a displaced South Sudanese woman, Uganda
"We have been living for a long time with the fear of starvation. But now we are ready to help others."
Geraldine, Rural Farmer, Rwanda
"Thriving Skills has been very important for these young adults. They've gained tools and competencies for independent living and professional work, providing them with autonomy, independence, confidence, motivation and self-discipline."
